The Prophet Bar 7/9/11

Hello, hello, and good evening my friends!

So about a month ago, I ventured down to Deep Ellum to the Prophet Bar, where I knew that there were several local bands playing.  4 to be exact.  Bird.  My Lucidity.  The Black Frames.  Dyerwood.  So I thought, what a great opportunity to FINALLY do what I have been talking about forever!  Perfect venue,  a small tucked away bar off of Elm St.  The Prophet Bar's walls are covered in art (some of it, maybe all of it local), beautiful lighting, and a pretty good selection of beer.  Its green room is covered with graffiti from all the bands that have anxiously awaited their sets inside.  The stage was up close and personal and the sound was surprisingly awesome.  So below, I have included some of my reviews of the bands, their members, and links to their music :)  Enjoy!

Bird

By far the most interestingly named band of the group I saw this particular night!  Bird has a sound to match their name, interesting.  I mean this in a good way!!  You couldn't really categorize Bird in any particular genre.  They are one in their own!  Bird can play anything, though I really love the reggae sound they have in some of their songs.  They are a 3 man band with Scott Thompson on guitar and vocals, Eric Moss on bass, and Nick Forte on drums.  They are a young band, but they really have some great potential.  The song writing is pretty awesome.  Definitely check out "The Bee Song".

My Lucidity

Ok, this band is LEGIT.  They really do have a great sound, strong band, strong vocals, great original music, the whole package.  I had their demo cd in my car for like 2 weeks, and never got tired of hearing it..(oh where is it you say?  Lent it to a friend..they liked it so much they kept it)  Very punk/hardcore sound.  Strong guitar and drum mini solos.  Listen, they have a bright orange mustache attached to one of their speakers...Im in.  Duh.  My favorite song right now is probably Scream. Everything just seems to work in this one.  Though, a few of their songs feature a violinist which offers a really cool vibe to the songs.  I like that.  So they have 4 members with Jacob Guzman on guitar and vocals, Nick Caldwell on the guitar, Henry Story on drums, Patrick Smith on bass, and Orion Pitts with the violin and percussion.

You should definitely go check out My Lucidity.
Or you can watch the video for their song Nympho.

The Black Frames

This band is pretty dern cool.  They sound kinda like Vampire Weekend or MGMT, which happen to be 2 of my favorite bands.  The Black Frames are indie from head to TOM'd toe, Tommy Busby, Laura Busby and Patrick Cone are totally rocking the stage.  In some of their slower songs you get to see their folk-y side.  With catchy lyrics and strong guitar solos this band is definitely one I would go see again.  Also, they have released two videos already. "Leg Bone"  and "One Four the Money".  I say put them on your to do list, I dont think you will regret it.

You can follow them @ twitter.com/blackframe2 or at blackframemusic.tumblr.com

And last but certainly not least

Dyerwood

The last band of the evening, and what a way to wrap it up!  They are some really great guys that can really play.  With Justin Dyer on vocals and guitar, and Craig Woodward on drums, Mark Brandt, Caleb Ditzenberger, and Brian Shaddock to back them up this band is guaranteed to rock your socks.  The Prophet Bar was actually able to get some audio and video footage of their performance of Nobility, here.   They have some really great potential, and are getting ready to release their first demo as a band!  You can watch for updates,  videos and more at facebook.com/DyerWood!!

Well ladies and fellers, I hope you get a chance to check out all of these super awesome bands soon!  If not in person go like them on facebook or follow their website or listen to their music!  Support your local bands!

Also in an unrelated attempt at showing off here are some pictures I took of My Lucidity and DyerWood.
